The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2024, Germany/Iran, drama, 167 mm., rated 14A, Persian with English subtitles). Mohammad Rasoulof, who wrote and directed this Oscar nominated film, fled Iran to avoid prison after secretly filming it in Tehran. The film revolves around the family of an investigating judge whose gun disappears during a nationwide protest of the death of a much-loved and prominent young woman, leading the judge to suspect his wife and daughters. A powerful film about the dreadful and paralyzing effects of totalitarianism and political repression.
